O Lord, I have indeed been worn down

by my love for this treacherous one.

And my tears have disclosed my secret,

and my concealment has betrayed me.

    O flower of the garden,

    O breath of sweet basil,

    ما أَنتَ مِن إِنسانِ

    you are the son of a full moon and a sun;

    you are no human being.

    Al-Thurayya has no equal

among all that any builder has ever built.

Its walls are made of light,

and its roof is made of flames.

And the courtyard is a ruby of pearls,

    to the eye, amid gardens.

And the water races across them

    in a brimming stream.

So live there safe and sound,

    O caliph of the All-Merciful.

And endure alongside Time for an age,

a lifetime as long as two lifetimes,

so that you both remain together

while humankind and jinn pass away,

like the drawing together of two wings—

this one and that, both tirelessly in motion.

This one flew low, and that one,

and both alighted in one place.

    And nothing endures forever,

    and everything passes away.
