ياO كَفُّhand ماhow حَيِّتِyou were hailed إِذwhen غَدَوتِyou set out in the morning
يا كَفُّ ما حَيِّتِ إِذ غَدَوتِ
بِباشِقٍwith a sparrowhawk يُعطيكِgives you ماwhat اِبتَغَيتِyou sought
بِباشِقٍ يُعطيكِ ما اِبتَغَيتِ
O hand, how you were hailed when you set out in the morning,
With a sparrowhawk that gives you what you sought.
لاnot يَتَّقيهِescapes it هارِبٌone fleeing بِفَوتِby outstripping it
لا يَتَّقيهِ هارِبٌ بِفَوتِ
سَهمٌan arrow مُصيبٌhitting its mark كُلَّماwhenever رَمَيتِyou launched
سَهمٌ مُصيبٌ كُلَّما رَمَيتِ
No fleeing creature can escape it by outstripping it.
An arrow that strikes true whenever you launch it.
مُؤَدَّبٌwell-trained يُسرِعُhastens إِنif دَعَيتَyou called
مُؤَدَّبٌ يُسرِعُ إِن دَعَيتَ
لاno عَيبَfault فيهِin it غَيرُexcept عِشقِpassionate love of المَوتِdeath
لا عَيبَ فيهِ غَيرُ عِشقِ المَوتِ
Well-trained, it hastens if you call.
It has no fault except its love of death.
