يا مُقلَةً أُدنِفَت كَما دَنِفتُ

يا مُقلَةً أُدنِفَت كَما دَنِفتُ

مَرَّت بِنا سَنحَةً وَما وَقَفتُ

مَرَّت بِنا سَنحَةً وَما وَقَفتُ

O eye, stricken as I was stricken!

O one who moves as I moved

She passed us fleetingly, and I did not stop.

An instant passed us by and I did not stop

وَجَفنُها ساحِرٌ ليَّقتِلَني

وَجَفنُها ساحِرٌ ليَّقتِلَني

فَتُبتُ مِن تَوبَتي الَّتي سَلَفتُ

فَتُبتُ مِن تَوبَتي الَّتي سَلَفتُ

And her eyelid is a sorcerer bent on killing me.

And her eyelids are sorcerers that would kill me

So I repented of my former repentance.

So I repented from my previous repentance

رَثى لِعَينٍ يَقوى بِلَحظَتِها

رَثى لِعَينٍ يَقوى بِلَحظَتِها

كَيدٌ لِإِبليسَ كُلَّما ضَعُفتُ

كَيدٌ لِإِبليسَ كُلَّما ضَعُفتُ

He pitied an eye whose glance strengthens

Woe to an eye whose glance gains strength

A stratagem of Iblis whenever I grow weak.

A scheming for the devil whenever I weaken
