كَمmany an حاسِدٍenvier حَنِقٍfurious عَلَيَّat me بِلاwithout
كَم حاسِدٍ حَنِقٍ عَلَيَّ بِلا
جُرمٍoffense فَلَمyet did not يَضِرُّنيharm me الحَنَقُthe fury
جُرمٍ فَلَم يَضِرُّني الحَنَقُ
Many an envier, furious with me for no
How many envious haters towards me without cause, yet their spite harmed me not.

مُتَضاحِكٍfeigning laughter نَحويtoward me كَماjust as ضَحِكَتlaughed
مُتَضاحِكٍ نَحوي كَما ضَحِكَت
نارُflame الذُبالَةِthe wick وَهيَwhile it تَحتَرِقُis burning
نارُ الذُبالَةِ وَهيَ تَحتَرِقُ
feigns laughter toward me, just as laughed
