كَأَنّيas though I حينَwhen تَرتَحِلُset out المَطاياthe mounts

عَلى فَيحاءَ ناشِرَةٍ جَناحا
It is as though I, when the mounts set out,
As though when the litters depart at daybreak
were upon a spacious vessel spreading a wing
over an open land spreading wings
لِبَحرٍtoward a sea تَقصُرُfall short الأَلحاظُthe gazes عَنهُof it
لِبَحرٍ تَقصُرُ الأَلحاظُ عَنهُ

بَعيدَ الماءِ يَبتَلِعُ الرَواحا
toward a sea beyond the reach of sight,
towards a sea too vast for the eyes to comprehend
its waters deep, swallowing the evening’s journey.
with distant waters engulfing souls
