لي حَبيبٌ يَكُدُّني بِمِطالِهِ

لي حَبيبٌ يَكُدُّني بِمِطالِهِ

غَشَّ ديني بِحُسنِهِ وَجَمالِهِ

غَشَّ ديني بِحُسنِهِ وَجَمالِهِ

I have a beloved who wearies me with his delays.

I have a beloved who torments me with his absence,

He deceived my faith with his loveliness and beauty.

He has deceived my faith with his beauty and grace,

قَمَرٌ يُلبِسُ الظَلامَ ضِياءً

قَمَرٌ يُلبِسُ الظَلامَ ضِياءً

عَجِبَ النَقصُ في الوَرى مِن كَمالِه

عَجِبَ النَقصُ في الوَرى مِن كَمالِه

A moon who clothes the darkness in radiance.

A moon that clothes the darkness with splendor,

Imperfection among humankind marveled at his perfection.

The world wonders at his perfection and completeness,

نازِحُ الوَصلِ لَيسَ يَرحَمُ آما

نازِحُ الوَصلِ لَيسَ يَرحَمُ آما

لِيَ مِن طولِ هَجرِهِ وَاِعتِلالِه

لِيَ مِن طولِ هَجرِهِ وَاِعتِلالِه

Distant in union, he shows no mercy to the hopes

The one who distances union is merciless to the lovers,

of mine, through his long estrangement and his excuses.

I suffer from the length of his abandonment and illness,

وَجَّهَت نَفسِيَ الرَجاءَ إِلَيهِ

وَجَّهَت نَفسِيَ الرَجاءَ إِلَيهِ

فَأَقامَت عَلى اِنتِظارِ نَوالِه

فَأَقامَت عَلى اِنتِظارِ نَوالِه

My soul directed its hope toward him,

I directed my soul to hope in him,

and so remained awaiting his favor.

So it lingers waiting for his gift.
