أَلَم تَرَني سَخِطتُ عَلى الزَمانِ

أَلَم تَرَني سَخِطتُ عَلى الزَمانِ

وَحُسنُ الظَنِّ بِالدُنيا دَهاني

وَحُسنُ الظَنِّ بِالدُنيا دَهاني

Have you not seen me grow angry with time?

Didn't you see me angry at the times

And thinking well of the world has brought me grief.

And having good expectations from life deceived me

وَلَستُ مِنَ الشَبابِ وَلَيسَ مِنّي

وَلَستُ مِنَ الشَبابِ وَلَيسَ مِنّي

فَقَد أَعطَيتُ حابِسَتي عِناني

فَقَد أَعطَيتُ حابِسَتي عِناني

And I am not of youth, nor is youth of me.

And I'm not of the youth nor is it from me

For I have given my reins to her who holds me captive.

So I have given my restraint its rein
