سَهلُunstinting المَواهِبِin gifts لاnot تُقاتِلُfights نَفسُهُhis soul
سَهلُ المَواهِبِ لا تُقاتِلُ نَفسُهُ
عَنin defense of مالِهِhis wealth حَتّىso that يُقالَhe is called جَوادُgenerous
عَن مالِهِ حَتّى يُقالَ جَوادُ
Free with his gifts, his soul does not struggle
over his wealth merely to be called generous.
لَكِنَّهُbut he سَمحُgenerous الضَمائِرِinward thoughts سابِقٌforemost
لَكِنَّهُ سَمحُ الضَمائِرِ سابِقٌ
بِالزادِwith provisions حينَwhen يُعَلَّلُare eked out الأَزوادُthe provisions
بِالزادِ حينَ يُعَلَّلُ الأَزوادُ
Rather, he is generous at heart, the first
to offer food when provisions are eked out.
عَذبُsweet الخَلائِقِin character كُلَّماwhenever جَرَّبتَهُyou test him
عَذبُ الخَلائِقِ كُلَّما جَرَّبتَهُ
فيماin what تُحِبُّyou love رَأَيتَهُyou find him يَزدادُhe grows still better
فيما تُحِبُّ رَأَيتَهُ يَزدادُ
Sweet in character, whenever you put him to the test
in what you love, you find him growing still better.
