Do not grieve; may you be spared grief and pain.
Do not grieve when grief and pain arrive
And may you never lack lasting life in the company of blessings.
Nor lack joy when blessings abide

Has it not been said, in words you do not deny,
For it is said, as you well know
that it is among a young man's honors for his womenfolk to precede him in death?
That to honor others is the mark of a noble soul

O you who gloat over the sons of Wahb in their bereavement,
So gloat not at others' sorrow, though they be your foe
Do not rejoice at a loss that has increased their nobility.
Exult not in their loss, but wish them fortune's glow
