طِبتَ ذِكراً وَطابَ جِسمٌ وَريحُ
May my father be ransom for what the tomb enfolds of you.
By my father, no harm shall come to you from the grave
Sweet is your memory, and sweet your body and scent.
You were good in life and in death, your body and soul at peace

You were what you were to me, then died against my will.
You were as you were to me, but you died against my wishes
Would that I had died while you were well!
Would that I had died, and you had lived on, healthy and well

I forsook his grave; then rose the covenants
I abandoned his grave, so death and fate rose against me
Of nobility and wisdom, wailing over him.
