At evening the crescent of fasting appeared,

with ill fortune for the winecup and the lute.

For many a youth went among the singing

maidens, drunk and full of unrestrained joy.

And he had been lively; but when he saw

it, he was burdened with care and lost his zest.

And he turned away from it, as did

a maiden at the sight of a grizzled brow.
