وَصاحِبٍ يَسخَرُ في مَوعِدِه

وَصاحِبٍ يَسخَرُ في مَوعِدِه

وَأَحمَدُ اللَهَ وَلا أَحمَدُه

وَأَحمَدُ اللَهَ وَلا أَحمَدُه

And a friend makes a mockery of his promise;

A friend who mocks in our meeting

And I praise God, but do not praise him.

I thank God for him not thanking

زَرعُ المُنى بِقَولِهِ لَفظَةٌ

زَرعُ المُنى بِقَولِهِ لَفظَةٌ

ثُمَّ مِطالٌ بَعدَهُ يَحصُدُه

ثُمَّ مِطالٌ بَعدَهُ يَحصُدُه

A word he utters sows hopes;

His spoken word is a seed sown

Then delay afterward reaps the crop.

Then later a sickle to be thrown
