After you, I kept company with a group,
After you all I befriended a group,
though I had no desire to do so.
Yet I had no desire for that kind.
غِنائُهُمtheir singing شَتمٌabuse لِجُلّاسِهِمof their sitting companions
وَرَقصُهُمand their dancing فيin كَبِدِthe liver of الصاحِبِthe companion
Their singing is abuse of those who sit with them,
Their singing was but insults to their sitters,
and their dancing is in their companion’s liver.
And their dancing was torture for the onlooker.
