أَهلاًwelcome وَسَهلاًand a warm welcome بِمَنto her whom فيin النَومِsleep أَلقاهاI meet her
أَهلاً وَسَهلاً بِمَن في النَومِ أَلقاها
وَحَبَّذاand how delightful طَيفُهاher apparition لَوif only كانَit had آتاهاbrought her
وَحَبَّذا طَيفُها لَو كانَ آتاها
A warm welcome to her whom I meet in sleep!
Welcome, welcome to she who in sleep has cast us,
And how delightful her apparition—if only it had brought her!
And blessed is her phantom, if it would but come to us.

يا حَبَّذا شَعَثُ المِسواكِ مِن فَمِها

إِذا سَقَتهُ عُقاراً مِن ثَناياها
Ah, how delightful the tooth-stick’s frayed fibers from her mouth,
Oh how blessed is the dishevelment of her toothstick in her mouth,
When she gives it wine to drink from her front teeth.
When she has moistened it with a draught from her lips.
