الدين دين ربنا والملك

عليه في دين الإله الدرك

The faith is our Lord's faith, and the king

bears responsibility for the faith of God.

يذب عنه مكر كل مارق

للشرك منه صائد وشرك

He wards off from it every renegade's plotting.

From him come a hunter and a snare for polytheism.

إذا رأى المغرور بالله يقل

هذا الذي يلقى عليه الشبك

When he sees one deluded concerning God, he says:

“This is the one over whom the net is cast.”

ثبته رب السما بخلقه

كرماني في دينه مرتبك

May the Lord of heaven make him steadfast among His creatures;

Kirmani is entangled in his faith.

وعابدوا الصخر سواء عندهم

وعابدوا الرحمن فيما نسكوا

To them, worshippers of stone are equal

to worshippers of the Merciful in their devotions.

لا بارك الله تعالى فيهم

في حيث ما كانوا وأنّى سلكوا

May God Most High not bless them,

wherever they are and whichever way they go.

وهذه كتبهم ان أنكروا

تنبيك عن خبث النحاس السهك

And here are their books, if they deny it,

telling you of the vileness of their fetid stock.

وقد علمتم ما جرى لمعشر

خانوا له رب العباد وفتكوا

You have already learned what befell a group

who for his sake betrayed the Lord of His servants and acted treacherously.

فعزلوا موسى به وقاسما

بئس البديل بالسماك السمك

So they dismissed Musa and Qasim in favor of him;

what a wretched exchange—fish for the star Simak!

فاضطرب الإسلام حين عزلوا

لمن برب العالمين يشرك

So Islam was shaken when they dismissed them

for one who associates partners with the Lord of the worlds.

ولاذ بالله الهدى وطرفه

تذرى الدموع والضلال يضحك

And guidance sought refuge in God, its eye

shedding tears while error laughed.

وضاقت الأرض بكل مؤمن

يؤمن بالله وضقن السكك

The earth grew narrow for every believer

who believes in God, and the lanes grew narrow.

حذرتهم إذ عزلوا أئمة

بكافر بربه فاستضحكوا

I warned them when they replaced imams

with a disbeliever in his Lord, but they laughed.

وقلت هذه خطوط العلما

وكل من به تقام النسك

And I said: Here are the scholars' writings

and those of everyone through whom the rites are upheld:

إن دما طائفة ابن عربي

بأمر رب العالمين تسفك

indeed, the blood of Ibn Arabi's followers

is to be shed by command of the Lord of the worlds;

وانهم أملاكهم موقوفة

وانهم لو ملكوا ما ملكوا

their possessions are held in suspension,

and even if they acquire possessions, they do not own them.

فاعرضوا عن صوب حكم ربنا

واطرحوا أمر الهدى وتركوا

Yet they turned away from the right course of our Lord's judgment,

cast aside guidance's command, and abandoned it.

والله مغوار على دين الهدى

ومن بحبل دينه يستمسك

But God is a fierce champion of the faith of guidance

and of whoever holds fast to the rope of His faith.

وكان ما كان بغير مهلة

انقلب الحال ودار الفلك

And what happened happened without delay:

the state of affairs reversed, and the celestial sphere turned.

وعزل العازل للفوز بمن

أحبه الله ونعم الملك

And the dismisser was dismissed, for triumph through one

whom God loved—what an excellent king:

الملك الظاهر يحي من به

حي موحد ومات مشرك

King al-Zahir Yahya, through whom

the monotheist came to life and the polytheist died.

ما كنت إلا غارة الله ومن

تطلبه غارة الإله يدرك

You were nothing but God's onslaught, and whoever

God's onslaught pursues will be overtaken.

أخرجته من مجلس العلم وقد

دنسه بما به يأتفك

You expelled him from the assembly of learning, after he had

defiled it with the falsehoods he fabricates.

وقلت ردوا الحق في نصابه

والسيف في قرابه واستدركوا

And you said: Restore justice to its rightful place,

and the sword to its sheath, and make amends.

ففر طرف الدين وانجاب بكم

عند دجى الضلالة المحلولك

Faith's noble steed fled, and through you came a clearing

amid the pitch-black darkness of error.

والحمد لله لقد أرضيته

بحفظ دينه ونعم المسلك

Praise be to God: you have indeed pleased Him

by safeguarding His faith—what an excellent path!

ومن غريب الأمر أنه أبى

والطمع المطاع أمر مهلك

And strange indeed is his refusal—

greed obeyed is a ruinous thing.

أتى يريد حصة لمدة

كان به الإسلام فيها ينهك

He came seeking a share for a period

during which Islam was being worn down by him.

لا عزلهم صح ولا تدريسه

صح ولا المرتد ممن يملك

Neither their dismissal was valid, nor his teaching

was valid; nor is an apostate among those entitled to own.

فكيف يرجو أخذ ما ليس له

أظن قرب يومه المحرك

How, then, does he hope to take what is not his?

I think his day of upheaval is near.

والله ما لعالم رب تقى

في كفره بربنا تشكك

By God, no scholar endowed with piety

has any doubt about his disbelief in our Lord.

لو كنتم أمس ضربتم عنقه

لزال عن دين الإله وعك

Had you struck off his head yesterday,

a fever would have left the faith of God.

ما قربة عند الإله ادخرت

مثل دم الكرماني حين يسفك

No act of devotion laid up with God

is like al-Kirmani's blood when it is shed.

يوجعنا في الله وهو سالم

يمشي برجليه أما من يفتك

He wounds us in God's cause while he remains unharmed,

walking on his two feet—is there no one to strike him down?

والله يا خير الملوك إنها

عظيمة لكنها تستدرك

By God, O best of kings, it is

a grave matter, but it can be remedied.

السيف في الكف وهذي العلما

يفتون أن مثله لا يترك

The sword is in hand, and here are the scholars

ruling that one like him must not be spared.

ومن ينافقه لضعف دينه

في السر لا يبدي لنا ما يأفك

And whoever flatters him hypocritically out of weakness of faith,

in secret, does not reveal to us the lies he fabricates.

يا ويل من ينصره على الهدى

يوم يجيء ربنا والملك

Woe to whoever supports him against guidance

on the day our Lord and the angels come!

متهم في الدين من رايته

يبغي له خطا لديك يدرك

Suspect in faith is anyone you see

seeking for him a writ to be obtained from you.

يا رب ما استخلفت يحيى عبثا

كف يجود وحسام يبتك

O Lord, You did not appoint Yahya as ruler in vain:

a hand that gives freely, and a sword that severs.

الهمه يا رب الذي ترضى به

واقطع به دابر قوم اشركوا

Inspire him, O Lord, with what pleases You,

and through him cut off the last of a people who associated partners with You,

إن لم يعودوا نحو دين المصطفى

وخير من أوحى إليه ملك

if they do not return to the faith of al-Mustafa,

and the best of those to whom an angel brought revelation,

ويتركوا مقالة ابن عربي

لقول من يقوله التبرك

and abandon Ibn Arabi's doctrine

for a saying through whose utterance one seeks blessing.
