You are a fortress and a refuge for the Muslims,
You are a fortress and refuge for Muslims,
and a reserve and a treasure for whoever hopes for your bounty.
And for those seeking your help, a treasure and hoard.

You never cease, in compassion for them,
You are ever gracious and protective of them,
and in their defense, to make pilgrimage and wage war.
Defending and fighting for them.

These subjects have come, through your justice,
This nation has become, through your justice,
to live in the shade of a blessing none can wrest away.
One that dwells in the shade of blessings that cannot be surpassed.

It has settled into a stronghold of security that cannot
disturbed there at any time, nor dislodged.
Be shaken or provoked.

It has no remover of disasters, nor healer of sorrows,
of distress but you, when they are hard pressed.
Except you, when you are called.

So after praising God, no sound is heard from it
is heard from them except praise of you.
Except praising you.

When they pray to God, they deem nothing worthier
When it calls to God, you see no prayer
than a prayer through which you endure and grow mighty.
More right to keep it strong.

And with the kindness it has known in you,
you, gentleness still holds firmness and a shove.
In your softness there is firmness and shaking.

You disciplined them without injustice, straightening a bend;
You pleased it, not deviating from uprightness,
sometimes a squeeze splits a straightened spear-shaft.
Though the cultured may frown in disapproval.

How can praise be slow to reach you, when
How can praise suffice you, when generosity flows
generosity has hastened, driven by urging and spurring?
Swiftly, spurred and impelled?

A deep basin flooded petitioners and the highlands,
It has drowned the supplicants, and generosity is a deep pool,
and a lofty height sheltered refuge-seekers and the lowlands.
Protecting the refugees, and resolve a firm mountain.

Not like bounty where one is exhausted and battered by lowering
Not like a generosity that exhausts and lashes out
a bucket into its deep well and jerking it.
Into its deep crevasse.

We have not seen you abandon an objective,
since we brandished you, as a keen sword is brandished.
Since we roused you while the swords shook.

Nor did these tribulations and trials

Change your noble dispositions.

Who, then, is the hope of a freeborn man in anguish,
So who is hoped for passionately by one
who has passed the night with worry's sting in his breast?
With burning anxiety and anguish in his breast?

He avoids complaint when he makes known
He suppresses complaint when distress appears,
his private thoughts; a glance and a hint suffice for the noble.
And it suffices the noble one to hint and gesture.

Calamities have carved my bones; in them,
Hardships have carved my bones, so in them
between my skin and flesh, lie cuts and gashes.
Between my skin and flesh are gashes and wounds.

How can one close one's eyes to calamities,
How can one be patient with misfortunes, while he is
when their fangs bite and pierce?
Wounded, torn, and bitten by their claws?

always places, from his bounty, a check and a barrier.
With his protection and hindrance.

O you of towering resolve, no blemish has ever touched you!
O cloud, never tainted by torment!
O you of clouded force, no shame has ever spotted you!

You safeguarded my watering-place when it was
You quenched my thirst though it was craving,
frequented, and made what I sought abundant when it was a trickle.
And fulfilled my request though it was scarce.

You supported me when calamity rent me,
and neither kicking nor goading was of any use against it.
And no kicking or pushing therein availed.

You clothed me in garments of blessing,
You clothed me in the raiment of bounty,
beside which silk-and-wool cloth and raw silk are coarse.
Though coarse to others, the finest and smoothest.

I have spurned the world for your sake, and I do not
done wrong; my praising another is a blow to praise itself.
Wrong, praising none but you with praise that shakes.

Neither my riding beasts nor my feet
does a stirrup carry my foot except on a journey to you.
Grow tired except in journeying to you.

Walking to them is backwards, but if you someday
for you one day, their walk is leaping and bounding.
Summon, the walk is a leap and a plunge.

Then sitting back from its clamor is inability.

Your brilliant days are adornments for the days,
nothing but ornaments that adorn, and embroidery.
Like jewelry that beautifies and stitches.

You are higher than all the ancestries people attribute
of preeminence, or attribute.
To themselves out of pride.
