The emir summoned me, so I answered him.

And why should I not answer you, O best of callers?

So I came to a radiant man, broad of arm,

fierce in combat, noble in his endeavors,

generous in deeds, extraordinary in bounty,

ever intent on fighting foes with arrows and clashing swords.

    فَقُلْ فِي كَرِيمٍ حَداهُ انْتِجاعِي

    And I had been seeking bounty from the most generous;

so speak of a generous man whom my quest for bounty spurred.

O sun of humankind and patron of the noble,

and peer of the clouds and lord of resolve,

I shall give thanks, as long as I remain among the living,

for the noble virtues in you that have so kindly favored me.

I prolong my praise of a noble man

who lengthened my reach against the calamities of time.
