Tell the chief, Amid al-Mulk, that he has

a resolve on which hopes rest for this world and for the faith.

O best of those in whom abundant praise has enraptured

a heart captivated by nothing but lofty deeds!

Why is your door open to whoever enters it,

yet I find it only closed against me?

Indeed, I seek refuge in a kindness from you that I know,

which has never ceased to slay my enemies and give me life,

lest what lies between me and them be

anything but fortune, which draws them near and keeps me far away.
