ياO قَبْرُgrave ماthat which لِلْمَجْدِbelongs to glory عِنْدَكَwith you فَاحْتَفِظْso safeguard
بِمُهَنَّدٍwith a sword of Indian steel ماnot كُنْتَyou were مِنْamong أَغْمادِهِits sheaths

O grave, glory is naught to you so keep
a sword of Indian steel whose sheaths you were never among.
Muhammad safe, for you were not one of his shrouds

The eye yearns for him as for its own dark pupil,
Eyes yearn for him like their own dark centers
and the breast enfolds him like its own heart.
And hearts cleave to him like their own cores
