لَعَمْرِيby my life لَئِنْif indeed شَرَّفْتَنِيyou honored me بِصَنِيعَةٍwith a kindness
وَحَلِّيْتَand you adorned مِنِّيof mine بِالنَّدىwith generosity راحَةًa palm عُطْلاًunadorned
By my life, if indeed you have honored me with a kindness
By my life, though you have honored me with a deed,
and adorned my bare palm with generosity,
And refreshed me with the dew, giving me leisure,
فَلَمْso did not يَأْتِcome عِنْدِيin my view غَيْرُanything other than ماwhat أَنْتَyou أَهْلُهُworthy of it
وَلاand no عَجَبٌwonder لِلْغَيْثِfor the rain أَنْthat رَوَّضَturned into a meadow الْمَحْلاthe barren land
then, in my eyes, you have done only what befits you;
None has come to me but you, who deserves it,
nor is it any wonder that rain has turned barren land into a meadow.
Nor is it strange that rain should make the place lush.
