وبعض نوى الأحباب كل النوائب
The keenest heartache is rejection by someone close who turns away.
The ardour of passion blocks the path of the indifferent beloved
A little separation from beloveds amounts to every calamity.
And some of the loved ones' vows bring all calamities

Love's most intractable illness is your loving someone indifferent.
And the worst malady of love is your love turning ascetic
Despite his withholding, a yearning lover's heart gives itself to you.
Yet if he denies you, a yearning heart turns to you

And the greatest deprivation is to complain silently
while your watering-place flows with sweet, refreshing water.
While your love is a chain on the watering places of drinking

even if a combatant's truce finds no favor in love.
And if passion does not please, at least the warrior would be safe
