Play the fool because of your times, and you will profit from them.

Cling to your youth as long as you can

For intellect is the wise man's deprivation.

For reason is the deprivation of the intelligent

ولا تعتل بالآداب فيه

ولا تعتل بالآداب فيه

فإن الدهر يزري بالأديب

فإن الدهر يزري بالأديب

And do not make literary learning your plea in them,

And do not take pride in education

For time casts scorn on the man of letters.

For fate scorns the educated
