وأجل من يخشى الزمان ويرتجي

My lord, O son of those who led the way to greatness,

My Lord, O son of the foremost ones in nobility

and most exalted of those whom Time fears and looks to with hope,

And the most noble of those who fear time or hope for favor

دع مزجك الصهباء اني لا أرى

Stop mixing the tawny wine, for I see no

Leave your fair mixing, I do not see

keeping a virgin untouched once she is wed.

وانعم علي بها كعرضك حرة

وثناك رائحة وجودك منهجا

with a young gazelle, dusky-lipped and radiant.

With lips smiling from the purest draft
