  1. حكى لحظه صاداً ولا ما عذاره

    وحاجبه نونا لينذرني القتلى

    His glance resembled a ṣād, and his sideburn a lām,

    and his eyebrow a nūn, to warn me of the slain.

  2. فمهما رنا أو كلما لاح صدغه

    وسلم ايماء بجرد لي نصلا

    So whenever he gazes, or whenever his temple comes into view,

    and he greets with a gesture, he unsheathes a blade for me.
