ناء غدا من سويدا مهجتي دان
And one far away, hidden from my eye's dark pupil,
Though distant, has grown close to the dark core of my soul.
حلفa sworn ally of التجنيfalse reproach كأنيas though I فيin جنايتهhis wrongdoing
حلف التجني كأني في جنايته
مماbecause of what أقيمI offer لهfor him عذراًan excuse أناI الجانيthe guilty one
مما أقيم له عذراً أنا الجاني
A sworn ally of false reproach: in his wrongdoing, it is as though I—
Through the excuses I make for him—were the guilty one.
لاmay not متعgrant enjoyment اللَهGod انسانيmy eye's pupil برؤيتهwith the sight of him
لا متع اللَه انساني برؤيته
انif راقwas pleasing منfrom بعدهafter him ليto me وجهa face انسانa human being
ان راق من بعده لي وجه انسان
May God deny my eye's pupil the joy of seeing him,
If any human face should please me after him.
