It came at evening, its breeze recalling wine—

a thick-fringed cloud, folding a wing to descend.

Darkness hid its paths, so it kindled

a lamp from its lightning to guide its way.

And the thunder's voice behind its clouds was like

a camel-driver shouting whenever the clouds grew weary.

Its reaches quaking, its course is held back

by a burden; then the winds grant it release.

It rained generously on the slopes, and the hills donned

robes that spring adorned with a sash.

So look at the lush garden, now

weeping for the morning showers, yet laughing and glad.

And toward its steady rain the blossom stretches a hand,

to which the cupbearer of dew has offered goblets.

And from its fragrance, you would think even the rain

was steeped in its rich perfume; when it waters it, fragrance rises.

A garden mirroring the Fatimid's character

in sweetness, and rainclouds mirroring his generosity.

O Ali, if you rise above the kings, they are

unmarked steeds, and you were made their radiant white-blazed one.

When you appeared before them at every mountain pass,

you made them forget al-Mansur and al-Saffah.
