بنجمof a star هُدىًguidance لاَحَshone فيin آلِthe house of هُوْدِHud
So bring glad tidings to the heaven of radiance and glory,
Rejoice, O heaven of joy,
Of a star of guidance that has shone in the house of Hud,
With a guiding star that shone among the House of Hood,
بِمُقْتَبَسٍof a borrowed light منfrom شُمُوْسِthe suns النُّفُوْسِof souls
ومُقْتَدَحٍand a struck spark منfrom زِنادِthe firesticks السُّعُودِof good fortune
Of a light borrowed from the suns of souls,
Kindled from the suns of souls,
And a spark struck from the firesticks of good fortune:
And ignited from the flints of glory,
هِلاَلٌa crescent تَأَلَّقَgleamed منfrom بَدْرِa full moon سَعْدٍof good fortune
ومُزْنٌand a rain cloud تَخَلَّقَtook shape منfrom بَحْرِa sea جُودِof generosity
A crescent gleaming from a full moon of good fortune,
A crescent that gleamed from the full moon of Saad,
And a rain cloud formed from a sea of generosity;
And a lamp that was lit from the sea of generosity,
شِهابُa meteor مِنَfrom النَّيِّرَيْنِthe two luminaries استَطَارَshot forth
لإِرْدَاءِto strike down كلِّevery مَرِيْدٍrebel عَنِيْدِstubborn
A meteor that shot forth from the two luminaries,
A shooting star that flew
To strike down every stubborn rebel;
To clothe every stubborn opponent,
ونَصْلٌand a blade إذاonce تَمَّis complete منهof it انتِضَاءٌunsheathing
فَوَيْحَthen woe to العِدَاthe foes مِنْfrom مٌبِيْرٍa destroyer مُبِيْدِan annihilator
And a blade—once its unsheathing is complete,
And a sharp sword that when unsheathed
Then woe to foes at the hands of a destroyer, an annihilator!
Woe to the enemies from a destroying warrior,
تَبَيَّنَbecame apparent فيهwithin him كُمُوْنُlatent presence الذَّكاءِbrilliance
وياand oh رُبَّmany a نارٍfire بِمُخْضَرِّin green عُوْدِwood
The brilliance latent within him has become apparent;
In it the essence of intelligence was evident,
And oh, many a fire lies in green wood!
Oh Lord, with a green rod.
