وبالحمة الزهراء قد أسعد المنى

And at the radiant hot spring, wishes found fulfillment;

With its radiant redness it brought joy to the wish

and it appeared like a garden, blooming and fragrant.

And appeared like a meadow, blooming with fragrance

وردنا بها ماء سخونا كأنه

دموع محب والأحبة قد ساروا

دموع محب والأحبة قد ساروا

There we reached hot water, as though it were

We found in it hot water, as though it were

a lover’s tears, his loved ones having departed.

Tears of a lover whose loved ones had marched on

بها اجتمع الضدان فالأمر مغرب

بها اجتمع الضدان فالأمر مغرب

فللماء إظهار وللنار إضمار

فللماء إظهار وللنار إضمار

There the two opposites met—an astonishing thing:

In it the opposites came together, so the matter is strange

so water is revealed, and fire concealed,

For the water has manifestation, and for the fire, concealment

كأفئدة تبغي خلاف الذي تعي

كأفئدة تبغي خلاف الذي تعي

فللود إظهار وللحقد أسرار

فللود إظهار وللحقد أسرار

like hearts that seek the opposite of what they harbor:

Like hearts that seek the opposite of what they know

so affection is displayed, and rancor kept secret.

For affection there is manifestation, and for hatred, secrets
