O my companion, bring the wine, bring it!
O my friend, bring the wine, bring it
For Nowruz morning is a time for it.
For the dawn of Nayrouz is the time for it

Vine-born, generous, golden,
Precious, precious, golden
Flame-like, virgin, sufficient unto itself.
Fiery, lively on its own

It grew delicate and clear in the glass; I thought it
It shone and glimmered in the glass till I emptied it
Had been lavished by lovers from their tears.
Lovers spent their tears on it

From the palm of a slender-waisted beauty, as though
From the palm of a slender beauty as if
The choicest wine had been pressed from her cheeks.
The juice of wine was pressed from its grapes

Enchantment lies in her glances, and coquetry in
Magic is in its glances, coquetry in
Her words, and coy charm in her movements.
Its words, and charm in its movements

And do you not see how springtime and its sweetness
Or don't you see the beauty of spring
Have awakened souls from their slumbers?
Has awakened the souls from their slumber

And the birds sing in the branches as if
They were praising Nizam al-Mulk in their melodies.
Praising the order of the king in their tunes

So rise with us and bestir yourself, that we may seize a chance
So get up my friend and be active to seize
At the days' delights before they slip away.
Pleasures of days before they are gone

O my two confidants—I hide nothing from you both—
O my friend, my secret, I won't hide from you
How sweet the world is, for all its flaws!
How sweet is life in its heights

Rise, serve it to me in the large cup, and turn to
Get up and serve it to me generously and go
Wine that relieves the soul of its distress.
To comfort that gives rest from worries
إنif مِتُّI die مِتُّI die فخَلِّنيso leave me وغَوايتيand my waywardness

If I die, I die; so leave me to my waywardness.
If I die, I die, so leave me to my madness
For waywardness is sweet to those who reap it.
For madness is sweet in its essences

And indeed I ran the course of passion and youthful folly,
And I have lived a rakish youth and desire
And drew my peers to its furthest limits.
And drawn my peers to its limits

Then I came to my senses, with no gain in my hand
Then I became reasonable, and my hands can no longer
From the world's pleasure except its consequences.
Reach the pleasures of life but its consequences
