أبَنِيَّ لا تَخشوَا عليَّ زمانِي

أبَنِيَّ لا تَخشوَا عليَّ زمانِي

فلقد أمِنتُ طوارقَ الحَدثَان

فلقد أمِنتُ طوارقَ الحَدثَان

My sons, do not fear what time may do to me.

My sons, do not worry for me,

For I am safe from the sudden blows of fate.

For I have secured myself against the vicissitudes of fate.

وقصَدتُ رحبَ مَن هُو بالغِنى

وقصَدتُ رحبَ مَن هُو بالغِنى

حُرُّ الخلائقِ طَيِّبُ الأردان

حُرُّ الخلائقِ طَيِّبُ الأردان

And I sought the spacious court of one who, with wealth,

And I have attained the shelter of the self-sufficient one,

Is noble of character and fragrant of sleeves.

Free and noble, sweet and gentle.

دمثُ السجايا في يَديهِ فَظاظةٌ

دمثُ السجايا في يَديهِ فَظاظةٌ

بالمالِ محبوبٌ إلى الضِّيفانِ

بالمالِ محبوبٌ إلى الضِّيفانِ

Gentle in disposition, his hands show harshness

Though stern at times through wisdom and justice,

Toward money; he is beloved of guests.

Yet beloved to both guest and friend through kindness and generosity.

من طِينةِ الإفضالِ كُوِّنَ شَخصُهُ

من طِينةِ الإفضالِ كُوِّنَ شَخصُهُ

في سُكّر الإِنعام والإِحسان

في سُكّر الإِنعام والإِحسان

His person was fashioned from the clay of generosity,

Molded from the clay of favor,

In the sugar of favors and kindness.

In the sugar of benefaction and blessing.

فِثقُوا بأنّيَ قد ظَهَرتُ على الُمنى

فِثقُوا بأنّيَ قد ظَهَرتُ على الُمنى

وأخذتُ للأيّامِ عقدَ أمان

وأخذتُ للأيّامِ عقدَ أمان

So trust that I have indeed attained my desires,

Have faith that I have attained what I wished for

And secured a covenant of safety for the days ahead.

And taken from fate a pledge of safety.

تِيهُوا وصولوا قادرين وأسرِفوا

تِيهُوا وصولوا قادرين وأسرِفوا

وتديَّنُوا وثِقُوا بصِدقِ ضمَاني

وتديَّنُوا وثِقُوا بصِدقِ ضمَاني

Strut and assert yourselves with power, and spend lavishly.

Roam and arrive, O Able Ones, and be excessive

And incur debt, and trust in the truth of my guarantee.

And be devout and trust my true guarantee.
