أنّيthat I لهُwith him فيماin what اعتراهُhas afflicted him مُقُاسِمُa sharer
My excuse for not visiting my lord in his illness
is that I share with him in what has afflicted him.

No—rather, my share of it exceeds his own,
and there are signs to bear out what I claim.

For if his body aches—may I be his ransom—from
an illness that besets him, my heart aches.

And I am more entitled to be visited; only
the healthy and sound are summoned to his service.
