You lodged them in a dwelling in the palace of Najd,

Like the sun in radiance and loftiness of station.

O palace of Najd, you are the noblest dwelling,

For you have joined beauty with generosity.

So boast above all palaces, and if you wish,

Then boast above cities and lands.

In beauty you have a distinction unmatched

By the palaces of Baghdad or Ghumdam.

For you have gathered beauties and marvels

That surpass the reach of thoughts and minds.

So your dome is like a bride displaying her finery

At her wedding, with the artist adorning her.

She enchants with her beauty: she is a field of battle

At times, and at times a covert for gazelles.

And her sea has ebb and flow whenever

The winds play with the branches.

As though it were an army that turned away in retreat,

Then wheeled back to charge its adversaries.

Streams and watercourses glide through it,

Like sharp swords drawn from their scabbards.

And the lions open their mouths wide around it,

    Forever, ceaselessly spouting coral.
