When you passed toward the prayer ground, taking your stand

With piety's serenity, in the stance of one communing in prayer,

Amid a clamorous army that gladdens the rightly guided,

    Yet surges against those astray.

Within it are lions of war amid thickets of spears,

    Upon every well-built, smooth-gaited steed:

Among them, a mail-clad warrior who meets spears with his breast,

    A crushing fighter, ever plunging into each narrow fray;

Or an archer wearing a Turkish turban,

Who charmed the eyes with delightful finery,

Carrying his Arabian bow over his shoulder,

Ornamented, adorned with an ivory grip.
