هذي بدائعُ حِكمَةٍ سَطَّرتُهَا

هذي بدائعُ حِكمَةٍ سَطَّرتُهَا

These are wonders of wisdom that I have written down,

These are the wonders of wisdom I have penned

at the direction of the lord Abu al-Hajjaj.

By the grace of the Master, my patron Al Hajjaj

وسِعَ الأنامَ بعدلِهِ وبِفَضلِهِ

وسِعَ الأنامَ بعدلِهِ وبِفَضلِهِ

وبعِلمِهِ وبوجُودِهِ التَّجَّاح

وبعِلمِهِ وبوجُودِهِ التَّجَّاح

He embraced all mankind with his justice and his bounty,

With his justice the people prospered and thrived

and with his knowledge and his presence [final epithet unclear as written].

With his grace, his knowledge, his glorious existence

من آلِ نَصرٍ نخبة الملك الرضا

من آلِ نَصرٍ نخبة الملك الرضا

أمنُ المَرُوعِ هُمُ وغيثُ الراجي

أمنُ المَرُوعِ هُمُ وغيثُ الراجي

Of the House of Nasr, the choicest and most esteemed of royalty;

From the house of Nasr, the elite of the pleased King

they are safety for the frightened and rain for the hopeful.

They are the refuge of the frightened, rain for the hopeful

من آلِ قيلةَ ناصرِي خيرِ الوَرَى

من آلِ قيلةَ ناصرِي خيرِ الوَرَى

والخلقُ بينَ تَخَاذُلٍ ولجَاجٍ

والخلقُ بينَ تَخَاذُلٍ ولجَاجٍ

Of the House of Qayla, supporters of the best of creation,

From the house of Qaila, my supporters, the best of creations

while mankind is caught between mutual desertion and obstinacy.

While people waver between weakness and stubbornness

مَاذا أقول وكل قول قاصر

مَاذا أقول وكل قول قاصر

في وصف بحر زاخر الأمواج

في وصف بحر زاخر الأمواج

What can I say, when every utterance falls short

What more can I say, for all words fall short

in describing a sea surging with waves?

In describing this sea, its waves overflowing

منه لباغي العُرفِ درّ فاخر

منه لباغي العُرفِ درّ فاخر

ولمن يعادي الدين هولٌ فاج

ولمن يعادي الدين هولٌ فاج

From it come splendid pearls for the seeker of bounty,

From it comes brilliant pearls for the cultured

and for whoever opposes the faith, sudden terror.

And terrible horrors for the enemies of the faith

دامت سعودك في مزيد والمُنى

دامت سعودك في مزيد والمُنى

تلقاك أفواجاً على أفواج

تلقاك أفواجاً على أفواج

May your good fortunes keep increasing, and may wishes

May your glory continue growing, in ascent

meet you in throngs upon throngs.

With legions upon legions coming to you
