لله ما أحلاه من زمن عذب

By God, how sweet a delightful time it was!

How beautiful is the time that God has made sweet,

And how delectable a draught it was!

And how fragrant are the roses.

أيام ملّكت الهوى خلدي

في مائس الأعطاف والقدِّ

في مائس الأعطاف والقدِّ

Days when I gave passion dominion over my mind,

The days when love possessed my eternity,

For one whose sides and figure swayed gracefully;

In the gatherings of cheeks and stature.

وسحبت ذيل الأنس محتكماً

وسحبت ذيل الأنس محتكماً

ونظمت شمل العيشة الرغدِ

ونظمت شمل العيشة الرغدِ

And I trailed the train of companionship as I pleased,

And I dragged the train of intimacy complaining,

And set the whole of a life of ease in order.

And brought together the garment of luxury and comfort.

فجنيت من ثمر المنى أملي

فجنيت من ثمر المنى أملي

وهصرت يانع قضبة المُلدِ

وهصرت يانع قضبة المُلدِ

So I plucked my hope from the fruit of wishes,

So I reaped from the fruit of my hopes my wishes,

And bent down a flourishing shoot among supple boughs.

And squeezed the sapling of new shoots.

وبلغت في أطوار دولته

وبلغت في أطوار دولته

أقصى المراد وغاية القصدِ

أقصى المراد وغاية القصدِ

And through the phases of its reign I attained

And in the phases of its rule, I reached

The utmost of desire and the ultimate aim.

The utmost of my will and the end of my aim.

وركضت أفراس الصِّبا مرحاً

وركضت أفراس الصِّبا مرحاً

وجريت في ميدانه جهدي

وجريت في ميدانه جهدي

And joyfully I galloped the steeds of youth,

And the steeds of youth frolicked playfully,

And raced in its arena with all my might.

And I raced in its field with my effort.
