أما فضائِلُكَ العظمى فلا يَدَ لي

بشكرها فَتَقَبَّل عَفوَ مُعتذِرِ

As for your great virtues, I have no power

For your great virtues I have no thanks,

To thank you for them; so accept what an apologetic man can offer.

So accept my apology though it's remiss,

لا وقتَ إلاَّ وفيه منكَ عَارِفَةٌ

لا وقتَ إلاَّ وفيه منكَ عَارِفَةٌ

غراءُ موصولَةُ الآصالِ بالبكرِ

غراءُ موصولَةُ الآصالِ بالبكرِ

No time passes without a favor from you,

There's no time but you grace it, generous friend,

Radiant, with evenings joined to mornings.

Tying past to present with an unbroken thread,

فإن قطعتُ زماني شاكراً لك ما

فإن قطعتُ زماني شاكراً لك ما

وفَّيتُ في الحقِ مِعشَاراً من العُشُرِ

وفَّيتُ في الحقِ مِعشَاراً من العُشُرِ

For if I spent my lifetime thanking you, I would not

If all my days praising you I did spend,

In truth repay even a tenth of a tenth of what is due.

I'd pay but a tithe of the debt that I owe.
