أمَّا الجهادُ فَأنتَ سَابِقُ شأوِهِ

أمَّا الجهادُ فَأنتَ سَابِقُ شأوِهِ

ومُقِيمُ سُنَّتِهش ومُمضِي حدِّه

ومُقِيمُ سُنَّتِهش ومُمضِي حدِّه

As for jihad, you outstrip its furthest reach,

As for jihad, you were ahead in pursuing it

And uphold its tradition and enforce its ordinance.

Upholding its ways and fulfilling its limits

لما رأيتَ الكفرَ أرهفَ حدَّهُ

لما رأيتَ الكفرَ أرهفَ حدَّهُ

وعتا عُتُواً جازَ غايةَ حدِّه

وعتا عُتُواً جازَ غايةَ حدِّه

When you saw unbelief sharpen its edge,

When you saw disbelief bare its harshness

And rebel with a defiance beyond its utmost bounds,

And transgress, exceeding all bounds

والرومُ قد شَبَّت ضِرَامَ حُرُوبِها

والرومُ قد شَبَّت ضِرَامَ حُرُوبِها

فالأرضُ نارٌ تَلتَظِي مشن وَقدِهِ

فالأرضُ نارٌ تَلتَظِي مشن وَقدِهِ

And the Romans had kindled the blaze of their wars,

The Romans have whetted the blades of their wars

So the earth was fire, flaring from its blaze,

So the land is afire, kindled by their flames

والبحرُ قَد غُصَّت بها أرجاؤُهُ

والبحرُ قَد غُصَّت بها أرجاؤُهُ

مِمَّا يُكاثرهُ الحَصَى في عدِّه

مِمَّا يُكاثرهُ الحَصَى في عدِّه

And the sea's reaches were choked with them,

The sea is clogged with their multitudes

With a multitude rivaled in number by pebbles,

Beyond count of the pebbles on its bed

وبمجمع البحرينِ منها عَسكَرٌ

وبمجمع البحرينِ منها عَسكَرٌ

قد سُدَّ عن سبل الجهاد بجهده

قد سُدَّ عن سبل الجهاد بجهده

And at the meeting of the two seas was an army of theirs,

At the junction of two seas their army lies

That had been barred from the paths of jihad by its exertion.
