ومنand who كمثلlike عليّAli فيin وزارتهhis ministry
ومن كمثل عليّ في وزارته
أغنىmore helpful عنon behalf of الملكthe realm أوor أحنىmore compassionate علىtoward البشرِhumankind
أغنى عن الملك أو أحنى على البشرِ
And who can compare with ʿAlī in his ministry—
And who, like Ali in his ministry,
who better relieved the king of need, or bent more tenderly over humankind?
Does more for the realm, or is gentler toward humankind?
ومنand who كمثلlike عليَّAli فيin إدارتهhis administration
ومن كمثل عليَّ في إدارته
أرضىmore content عنwith اللهGod أوor أغضىmore heedless عنof الكبرِold age
أرضى عن الله أو أغضى عن الكبرِ
And who can compare with ʿAlī in his governance—
And who, like Ali in his administration,
more content with God, or more willing to overlook arrogance?
Is more content with God, or more heedless of old age?
ومنand who كمثلlike عليّAli فيin سياستهhis governance
ومن كمثل عليّ في سياسته
أهدىbetter at guiding إلىtoward النفعbenefit أوor أعدىfiercer in attacking علىagainst الضررِharm
أهدى إلى النفع أو أعدى على الضررِ
And who can compare with ʿAlī in his statecraft—
And who, like Ali in his governance,
who guided more surely toward benefit, or was a fiercer foe to harm?
Guides better toward benefit, or fights harder against harm?
