And when the joyous Eid arrived, you came during

Its forenoon to its prayer ground, the gathering already vast,

With the step of one who greatly reveres God, humbly,

And the earth offered a kiss, if only the foot could feel it.

So blessed be this day, white-blazed and white-stockinged,

On which the heavy burden of sins is lightened.

You performed the Eid prayer, guiding and following

What the Chosen One laid down, through whom the messengers were ennobled.

And you returned to the noble abode, content

With God, your words and deeds approved.

And around you, from the champions of Muhammad's faith,

Are armies: victory encamps wherever they encamp.

    تناظر حسناً منهم الخيل والرّجلُ

    In them gleamed the mail-clad and the turbaned;

Among them, cavalry and foot soldiers matched in beauty.

Valiant warriors—when the winds of their resolve blow,

They raise clouds of battle-dust that pour down blood.

They draw their foes' souls from their bodies,

Swiftly, whenever they draw their keen swords.

So among them is a mail-clad warrior; in his mail and his keen sword

Are rays of war's fire, kindled by burnishing.
