وما أنثى بها رَعيُ الرعايا

And what female is it through whom subjects are tended,

She is not a place where the shepherds herd

and deaths and judgments carried out?

Nor where decrees of fate are executed

وتقصدها بنوها من رِضاع

وتقصدها بنوها من رِضاع

إذا انبعثوا لإبرام القضايا

إذا انبعثوا لإبرام القضايا

And her sons through suckling seek her out

Her children seek her out for suckling

when they set forth to settle cases.

When they set out to fulfill fate's decrees

لها اسمٌ إن أزلت النقطَ منه

لها اسمٌ إن أزلت النقطَ منه

فعذ باللهِ من شَرِّ البلايا

فعذ باللهِ من شَرِّ البلايا

She has a name: if you remove its dots,

She has a name - if you remove the dots

then seek refuge in God from the evil of calamities.

Seek God's protection from dire tribulations

وإن أبدلتَ آخره بهمزٍ

وإن أبدلتَ آخره بهمزٍ

فقد أبرأتَ نازلةَ الشكايا

فقد أبرأتَ نازلةَ الشكايا

And if you replace its last letter with a hamza,

And if you change the last letter to a hamza

then you have cured the affliction of ailments.

You will have solved the riddle of complaints

وإن بدَّلتَ أوَّله بنونٍ

وإن بدَّلتَ أوَّله بنونٍ

أتيتَ ببعض أرزاق المنايا

أتيتَ ببعض أرزاق المنايا

And if you replace its first letter with a nūn,

And if you change the first letter to a noon

you have brought some of death's provisions.

You will reveal some means of sustenance

فأوضح ما رمزناه بفكرٍ

فأوضح ما رمزناه بفكرٍ

سديدِ القصدِ مُبدٍ للخفايا

سديدِ القصدِ مُبدٍ للخفايا

So explain what we have encoded, with thought

So clarify what I have hinted with thoughts

sound in its purpose, revealing hidden things.
