غضبُ الإمام أشدُّ من أدبه

غضبُ الإمام أشدُّ من أدبه

وقد استجرتُ وعذتُ من غضبه

وقد استجرتُ وعذتُ من غضبه

The imam’s anger is harsher than his chastisement.

The imam's anger is harsher than his grace

And I have sought protection and taken refuge from his anger.

And I have incurred and suffered from his anger

أصبحتُ معتصماً بمعتصمٍ

أصبحتُ معتصماً بمعتصمٍ

أثنى الإله عليه في كُتبه

أثنى الإله عليه في كُتبه

I now seek refuge in Muʿtasim,

I have become one who seeks refuge in al-Mu'tasim

whom God praised in His scriptures.

Whom God praised in His books

لا والذي لم يُبقِ لي سبباً

لا والذي لم يُبقِ لي سبباً

أرجو النجاةَ به سوى سَببه

أرجو النجاةَ به سوى سَببه

No, by the one who has left me no means

No, by Him who left me no cause

by which to hope for deliverance, save his own:

To hope for salvation but through his cause

ما لي شفيعٌ غير حُرمته

ما لي شفيعٌ غير حُرمته

ولكلِّ من أشفى على عَطَبه

ولكلِّ من أشفى على عَطَبه

I have no intercessor but his sanctity,

I have no intercessor other than his sanctity

and it intercedes for all who stand on the brink of ruin.

And everyone he healed of their affliction
