فلهاso she shall have العتبىamends لديناwith us والرضاand satisfaction
She grew angry that I visited another woman in secret.
I was angered when I secretly visited another
So she shall have amends and satisfaction from us.
So the blame is mine, and forgiveness is hers
ياO فدتكmay it ransom you النفسُthe soul كانتit was هفوةa lapse
فاغفريهاso forgive it واصفحيand pardon عماfor what مضىhas passed
O, may my soul be your ransom—it was a lapse.
Oh my soul, it was just a slip
So forgive it, and pardon what is past.
So forgive and overlook what has passed
واترُكيand leave العذلreproach علىupon منwhoever قالهuttered it
وانسبيand ascribe جوريmy injustice إلىto حكمthe decree of القضاfate
And leave reproach to whoever uttered it.
And leave the reproach upon the one who said it
And ascribe my injustice to the decree of fate.
And attribute my tyranny to the decree of fate
فلقدfor indeed نبهتنيyou roused me منfrom رقدتيmy slumber
وعلىand upon قلبيmy heart كنيرانِlike the fires of الغضاthe ghada tree (saxaul)
For you have indeed roused me from my slumber,
For you have awakened me from my slumber
And upon my heart is a blaze like the fires of ghada wood.
And lit fires in my heart like burning coals
