I would give my life for a beloved who headed to Mecca against his will,

Wrestling with hidden sorrow and pain.

Each of us is alone, cheered by no companion

From among the people, until the sacred months pass.

I yearn for the month of Muharram—would that it

Had come by tomorrow morning, or had departed and ended.

I am blamed for my preoccupation with one preoccupied with me,

When he circumambulates or reaches the Corner and touches it.

We hid in secret what had been between us,

And we keep our two pledges, despite whoever concealed it.
