    I see hopes not turning

    to anyone but al-Hasan ibn Sahl.

    كلا اليومين بان بكلِّ فضلِ

    His today vies with his tomorrow in generosity;

    both days stand out for every virtue.

    I see Hasan taking the lead, unrivaled,

    both after attaining leadership and before.

    If a difficulty confronts you, clouded by doubt,

    he heals you with wisdom and decisive speech.

    A scion of marzbans who excelled in wisdom,

    and their youngest inspired awe with a mature man's sound judgment.

    Kings—if you race against them, they outstrip you,

    and are too exalted for you to weigh them against an equal.

    وما أمضيتَ من قولٍ وفعلِ

    May you rejoice that what you deferred was wise,

    as was what you carried through in word and deed;

    أراك اللَه من قطعٍ ووصلِ

    and that you favor what is right in whatever

    God has shown you concerning severing and joining;

    and that you are spring rain for everyone,

    pouring upon the hollows of every parched land.
