ماnot زلتI ceased أشربُهاI drink it والليلُwhile the night مُعتكرٌdark and murky
ما زلت أشربُها والليلُ مُعتكرٌ
حتىuntil تضاحكَlaughed فيin أعجازهits last reaches القَمَرُthe moon
حتى تضاحكَ في أعجازه القَمَرُ
I kept drinking it while the night was dark and murky,
I still drink it while the night grows dark
until the moon laughed in the night's last reaches.
Until the moon smiles through the folds of its skirt.
ثمthen انثنيتI leaned علىupon كفيmy palm وقدand already أخذتit had taken
ثم انثنيت على كفي وقد أخذت
منيof me مآخذholds ماno فيin دونهاanything short of them وطَرُdesire
مني مآخذ ما في دونها وطَرُ
Then I leaned upon my palm, and it had taken
Then I leaned upon my palms for I was seized
such hold of me that nothing less could satisfy my desire.
By that which lies not in the power of thought to divert.
