Hasten the wine, for the cup is brimming
Urge the drink, for the goblet is brimming
with what at times stirs the impulses of longing.
With what stirs the yearning at times,

Indeed, I was moved by monks answering
I was enraptured by chanting monks
monks in Jerusalem after the night had fallen still.
At Jerusalem after the night grew still, monks,

فاستنفرت شجناً مني ذكرتُ به
كرخَKarkh العراقِIraq وأحزاناًand griefs وأشجاناand heartaches
كرخَ العراقِ وأحزاناً وأشجانا
So it roused a sorrow in me, through which I recalled
So I evoked a sorrow within me, which I remembered
Karkh of Iraq, and griefs and heartaches.
Like the orchards of Iraq, and griefs, and passions,

and longing kindling fires in my entrails:
And yearning ignited fires in my innards,

Does your priest have any knowledge to tell me,
how the face of patience can gladden one who has departed?
How the face of patience can be joyous after being sad?

Between the gardens and the meadows, who were they?
