Grant me refuge, for I have grown thirsty for the promise.

Grant me respite, for I thirst for the promise

When will you fulfill the promise confirmed by the pledge?

When will you fulfill the promise assured by the covenant?

أعيذك من صد الملوك وقد ترى

أعيذك من صد الملوك وقد ترى

تقطع أنفاسي عليك من الوجد

تقطع أنفاسي عليك من الوجد

I seek protection for you from the disdain of kings, while you see

I implore you not to reject the kings, though you may see

My breaths faltering from longing for you.

My breaths sever for you out of passion

فما لي شفيعٌ عند حُسنِك غيره

فما لي شفيعٌ عند حُسنِك غيره

ولا سببٌ إلا التمسك بالودِّ

ولا سببٌ إلا التمسك بالودِّ

For I have no intercessor before your beauty but that longing,

For I have no intercessor with you but your beauty

And no means except holding fast to affection.

And no cause except clinging to affection

أيبخل فرد الحسنِ فردُ صفاته

أيبخل فرد الحسنِ فردُ صفاته

عليَّ وقد أفردته بهوى فردِ

عليَّ وقد أفردته بهوى فردِ

Will one peerless in beauty, peerless in his qualities, be miserly

Does the peerless one begrudge me, his peerless attributes

Toward me, though I have singled him out with a peerless love?

While I singled him out with a singular love?

رأى اللَه عبد اللَه خير عبادِه

رأى اللَه عبد اللَه خير عبادِه

فملَّكه واللَه أعلمُ بالعبدِ

فملَّكه واللَه أعلمُ بالعبدِ

God saw Abd Allah as the best of His servants,

God saw Abdullah as the best of His servants

So He made him king, and God knows the servant best.

So He made him king, and God knows best the servant

ألا إنما المأمون للناس عصمةٌ

ألا إنما المأمون للناس عصمةٌ

مميزة بين الضلالة والرشدِ

مميزة بين الضلالة والرشدِ

Behold, al-Ma'mun is nothing but a safeguard for the people,

Be aware, protection for the people is only

Distinguishing between error and right guidance.

Discernment between misguidance and righteousness
