By the riverbank I have a beloved, for whom I would give my life—what a beloved!
By the riverbank I have a dwelling I ransom with any dwelling
He gave me two sprigs of myrtle on a single bough.
Two branches in a branch were brought to me as gifts from the myrtle

فقلت اذ نظما إلفين والتبسا
سقياًmay it be watered ورعياًand tended لفألٍfor an omen فيكماin you both حسنِgood
سقياً ورعياً لفألٍ فيكما حسنِ
So I said, when they were joined as two lovers and entwined:
So I said, since they were bent and intertwined
May the good omen in you both be watered and tended!
Being watered and grazed by a sublime fortune in both of you is beauty

شافٍ وآسٍ لنا يبقى على الزمن
For the myrtle is, without doubt, a healer of our longing,
Indeed the myrtle without doubt a myrtle of longing for us
Healing and consoling us, enduring through time.
A healer and myrtle for us that remains throughout time

You two have given me glad tidings of ties that will bring us together,
Good tidings, my wishes, of causes that will unite us
If my Lord wills; whatever He decrees shall be.
If my Lord wills, whatever He decrees will come to pass
