Ask through your dream-phantom about my night and my sleeplessness,
Ask my specter about my Layla and my vigil
And about my successive breaths, and about my thoughts.
And about the succession of my breaths and thoughts

My heart was never without remembrance of you when
My heart did not cease to remember you when I looked
My eye looked toward you, whether sober or drunk.
With awake eyes or in my intoxication

May rain bless my day of joy, when I was drawn to and fro
A drink for the day of my joy when worries preoccupied me
By pure wine, between intimacy and bashfulness.
The pure wine between intimacy and vigilance

And what remains in your cup comes to me, and I drink it
And the surplus of your cup comes to me and I drink it
Openly, and you drink from my cup without hiding.
Openly while you drink my cup unseen

And how can I kiss it and oblige it
To my upper chest, while my palm lifts it before my eyes.
To my throat as my palm raises it to my sight

[Would that] the span of my day, already gone by,
The days of my life passed as they were destined
Had equaled the span of all my days,
And the days of my life were destined in their measure
حتىso that إذاwhen ماemphatic particle انطوتfolded away عناaway from us بشاشتهits cheerfulness

So that, when its cheerfulness was folded away from us,
Until joy closed its eyes from us
We would thus become neighbors together in the graves.
We all became alike, walking to the grave
