    تتيه به حلى الزمن القشيب

    And a myrtle, true to its name, is a healer of sorrow;

    The finery of fresh-clad time glories in it.

    And it sent forth hanging strands like tresses,

    With tight curls in them, and exhaled every fragrance.

    And it concealed its blossoms, so pearls appeared,

    Rounded, with the beloved's scent.

    As though dawn had torn open its collars upon it,

    Then left in it the buttons of those collars.

    فعود سود حبات القلوب

    And humankind vied with it in passion and love;

    So, in return, the black kernels of hearts.
